Stephenie Meyer (Nee Morgan) was born December 24th 1973 in Hartford Connecticut, but grew up in Phoenix Arizona with her five siblings: Seth, Emily, Jacob, Paul, and Heidi. She went to college at Brigham Young University where she achieved a bachelor of arts in English in 1997. She met her husband, Christian, whose nickname is Pancho when she was growing up in Arizona. Together they have three boys named Gabe, Seth and Eli. Her husband has retired from his job as an auditor to stay and home with their three boys.
She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, more colloquially known as Mormon, and is known to be straight laced about her faith. In fact, Stephenie says that she doesn't smoke or drink. She didn't consider that she would be able to make a life as an author, her dream, but changed her mind after her son Gabe was born and decided not to go to law school, as she had considered, but instead to make a go at writing. Stephenie is an avid reader and cites sources such as Charlotte Bronte, L.M. Maud Montogmery, Emily Bronte, Jane Austen, and Shakespeare in influencing her writing style and helping to give her the ideas to create Twilight. Music is also important to her when she writes and some of her favorite musicians include Muse, Blue October, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance and Coldplay. She even produced a recent music video for the band Jack's Mannequin.
Her most famous work is notably the Twilight series, but Stephenie is also the author of the science fiction novel The Host and the author of one of the short stories featured in the 2007 book Prom Nights from Hell. She has, after completing the series, since expressed a desire to work on other projects and has even stated she might like to go completely out of the vampire realm. She says that she is ready for a change, however her legacy will live on in the literature world through Twilight Saga.
Entertainment Weekly has hailed her as the "most popular vampire novelist since Anne Rice." and in August 2009 it was revealed Meyer had broken JK Rowling's record on USA Today list where the books spent more than 52 consecutive weeks on the top ten. Stephenie was involved with Summit Entertainment when it optioned Twilight and then the other books for a film release and even had a small cameo in the movie. You can catch her getting a piece of pie at the diner counter when Bella and Charlie go out to dinner. Stephenie currently lives in Scotsdale, Arizona, but also has a house on Marrowstone Island, Washington.
